The Pattern

维斯台登纹通常在部分铁陨石切面经过抛光与蚀刻后显现。它来自 kamacite 与 taenite 两种镍铁相在极慢冷却中交生出的晶体片层。
The pattern appears on selected iron meteorite faces after polishing and etching. It is produced by intergrowths of kamacite and taenite, two nickel-iron phases shaped by extremely slow cooling.

What is a Widmanstatten pattern?
It is a nickel-iron crystalline structure revealed on selected iron meteorites after cutting, polishing, and etching, mainly from kamacite and taenite intergrowths.

Why is each piece unique?
